Doug and Gabi Michael established Gladfield Malt in 2003 on Gladfield Farm, situated in the heart of the Canterbury plains, an area world renowned for its highly favorable growing conditions for the finest malting barley.
Fifth generation malting barley farmers and first generation maltsters, the idea of malting their own barley came to Doug during childhood deliveries to the Canterbury Malting’s with his father in Heathcote, Christchurch.
With state of the art sophisticated modern day malting plant and technologies, Gladfield Malt is unique it is unprecedented in the way they have combined the best of barley growing, climate, experience, tradition and technology to create truly authentic hand crafted malt.
