Mosher – famous for radical brews such as Electric Aunt Jemima Maple Buckwheat Ale and Mister Boing Boing Cherry Barley Wine – will present some of his favourite topics from the world of brewing on the edge.
As well as being an expert on brewing on the edge, Mosher is also a keen home metallurgist. His Buckapound Brewery is world renowned and Mosher’s inventions have provided inspiration for homebrewers with a bent for DIY for many years.
Also headlining is the USA’s most famous homebrew judge, Gordon Strong. As president of the 3000-member strong Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP), Strong has judged at 196 homebrew competitions over the last 12 years. He estimates that over that period he has judged around five thousand beers!
Of course there will be plenty of other exciting things happening at the conference, but we’re keeping them under our hat for now. We can tell you that the massively successful Beer & Food Matching Dinner will return, and the crowd favourite Club Night will be even bigger and better than 2008.Both keynote speakers will also judge at the Australian Amateur Brewing Championship, the world’s second-largest homebrew competition, which last year attracted more than 1,000 entries from around the country.
Strong will also lead the first ever Australian BJCP judges briefing the night before the AABC judging.
Last year’s Australian National Homebrew Conference attracted more than 200 homebrew fanatics to Melbourne from as far afield as New Zealand, the Northern Territory and Western Australia for three intense days of presentations, demonstrations, beer tasting, social functions and plenty of beer-related fun.
The Australian National Homebrewing Conference 2010 will run from October 28-30, at the William Angliss Institute, 555 Latrobe St, Melbourne.
