Indigenous beer comp

As part of Randy’s presentation Radical Brewing: Alternative Ingredients, Alternative Techniques we’re planning on serving three radical brews with a distinctly Australian flavour. This is where you come in.

We want you to brew a ‘radical’ beer with distinctly Australian ingredients. How you choose to interpret this brief is entirely up to you, bearing in mind the judging criteria below. The beers we’re looking for will strike a perfect balance between showcasing local ingredients, uniqueness and drinkability.

Judging

Beers will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Taste
  • Aroma
  • Appearance
  • Mouthfeel
  • How well they showcase their indigenous ingredient(s)
  • How unique/radical the finished product is (i.e. a finger lime Vegemite Galaxy triple IPA might do very well in this category, but perhaps not so well in taste and aroma!)

There will be no scoring as such, but detailed tasting notes will be given to each entrant.

Entry details

Competition entry is free.

We need a minimum of 500mL of beer, your contact details and a description of the beer. Give as much or as little information as you feel is required.

Entries must be delivered to ANHC c/o Grain & Grape, 5/280 Whitehall St, Yarraville, Vic, 3013 by COB Friday September 24.

Remember to keep aside a full keg of beer to serve at the conference if you win.

Prizes

Having your beer served at ANHC 2010!

Bragging rights.

Oh yeah, and the following:

First prize: a Keg King Keg Master Series 3 Kegerator

Second prize: a Keg King 2.6L CO2 cylinder

Third prize: a Better Bottle carboy.

And we’ll arrange delivery of your keg of beer to the conference.

Don’t forget

If you win this competition we’re expecting you to bring a full (or close enough) keg of this beer. So don’t drink too much of it or be prepared to re-brew it! No keg, no prize.

About Us

about_us_pic
TV presenter Paul Mercurio and Fosters' Mick Jontef at ANHC 2008
Looking forward to its second conference, ANHC is the brain-child of John Preston, who has attended the American National Homebrew Conference twice and enjoyed it so much he decided he had to have one here. John pulled together a collection of the smartest and best-looking homebrewers in Melbourne to put together the inaugural ANHC in 2008.

A not for profit organisation, ANHC's primary goals are to:

» improve the quality of homebrewed beer,
» raise awareness of homebrewing and quality craft beers,
» share brewing knowledge and experience, and
» provide inspiration, ideas and motivation for you to brew.
